Make this base for your team in our two or three bedroom self-contained apartments that are less than two minutes walk from Port Douglas’s famous Four Mile Beach, where the Great Barrier Reef Marathon has its start line. Very handy.

With six options to choose from in the Great Barrier Reef Marathon most athletes will find at least one suitable course. The gruelling 74 kilometre Ultramarathon awaits the most prepared endurance runners. This elite event is recommended for runners who can complete a standard marathon in five hours. The Marathon is challenging with a lot of mixed gradients, but with a outstandingly picturesque backdrop, with sugarcane fields, Four Mile Beach, valleys, rivers and creeks to run on and alongside. Runners can also opt for the Half Marathon, ten kilometre, five kilometre or 2.5 kilometre junior event. The tropical climate is also another element for competitors to contend with, along with cassowaries, snakes, leeches and so on to watch out for.

Once you’ve had a chance to warm down after the marathon, unwind on your own private balcony with a cool drink and soak up the ambience of this tropical paradise, or relax around the pool with its surrounding tranquil, subtropical plantings. A plunge in the pool is a refreshing way to cool down and loosen those muscles. Or, cross the road from your apartment to Four Mile Beach for a swim, lie on the sand, or take a stroll along the magnificent coastal scenery for another less hurried view.
